MRS. VALERIE HINTON-HANNAH

Mrs. Valerie Hinton-Hannah, Assistant Dean, Judicial Affairs Officer, and Director Student Conduct & Advocacy – retired on May 1, 2019, after 31 years of service to Cleveland State University. She passed away on December 23, 2021.

Mrs. Hinton-Hannah started her career at Cleveland State University as an Academic Advisor in Trio/Special Studies and then became the Judicial Affairs Officer in the department of Student Life, a position she was very passionate about. Mrs. Hinton-Hannah was known across campus as the expert on how to aid in students’ success. Faculty, staff, and students often sought her out for advice and wisdom. Even after her retirement, she continued to be a resource to faculty and staff on campus. Under her leadership, the Office of Judicial Affairs fostered a campus community that provided students with the opportunity to reach their educational goals and a community that protected the health, safety, property, and human rights of students, faculty, and staff.

Prior to Cleveland State, Mrs. Hinton-Hannah was a Clinical Social Worker. She was a double alum of Kent State University, receiving both her Bachelor’s in Social Work and a Master’s in Education.

Mrs. Hinton-Hannah was a dedicated member and servant of Mt. Zion Oakwood Village Church. She was also a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; Alpha Lambda Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio, and served on many committees and Sorority led programs at the local and regional level. At Cleveland State Mrs. Hinton-Hannah was advisor to the Sorority’s chapter on campus for many, many years up until her retirement. As a loving wife and doting mother, she created a home that was filled with love and support. She always dressed fashionably and in high heels. She was the epitome of class and grace.
